Feel like joining a local race while visiting New York City? Check out upcoming races that take place just about every weekend in the spring and summer months, and monthly on the off season.
Our running community has the advantage of having two local race organizers. The biggest is the New York Road Runners which was founded over 60 years ago. They host numerous races throughout the year as well as the world’s largest marathon in the world, the TCS NYC Marathon. Their races are very popular with an average of 5,000 runners per race. That said, head over to their race calendar and registered as far in advance as you can so that you don’t miss out.
The second race organization to check out is NYC Runs, which was founded about 10 years ago. Their races are much smaller, and typically cap at 1,500 runners, so they feel more like a college race rather than a major event. And if you’re fast you just might win an age group award! Most of the races that NYC Runs hosts are themed and offer post race treats like bagels and cream cheese, ice cream in the summer and hot chocolate in the winter. And what’s unique about their calendar is that it includes upcoming races from other race organizations in the area along with their own hosted races.
